G’day language lovers! It has been a seriously busy start to spring for Geelong Cereal and wow, do we have some updates for you. Welcome to all of our new subscribers and contributors! We're thrilled to have you aboard.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the micro-fiction so far- with more than double the usual submissions already, it’s going to be absolutely massive!
Submissions for longer pieces have closed, but we can squeeze in a few more two-sentence stories, fifty word reviews and short poems.
Smooth Talkers, our live event at 94.7 the Pulse, is shaping up to be an amazing night. We have twenty-five of you wonderful wordsmiths lined up to share your work live on air, and the event will be free to attend for those not on the artist list. Please register here to join us for an evening of tunes, tales, poetry, drinks, chats and vibes! The evening will be broadcast live. A million thank-yous to our host, broadcaster Georgia Kostadinoff who will be joined by Chris Bryan and Maddie Fogarty to orchestrate our live readings as well as tunes and interviews with those of you keen to share live on air! (This is not a requirement; if a live interview isn’t your style, that is totally fine).

Practice Session at the Pulse, Wednesday evening 30/9 (time tbc)
If you’re a little nervous, or would like to brush up on your live reading before the event, we’ll be having a practice session at the studio along with some tips and tricks from our friendly neighbourhood broadcasters. If you’re a seasoned pro who doesn’t need a practice, and you’re on the readers list, consider popping in anyway to check out the venue, and let the rest of us absorb some of your radiant confidence! Please let us know soon if you plan to attend.
Our Serials Live On Air!
As of Monday 14/9, we have two serials being shared on Monday Front Page with Ian Campbell! This week, Martin Smith’s The Curious Case of Cluedo Black began, as well as Mel King's the Dream Run! You can listen to them here; Martin’s story begins shortly after 10:00am and the Dream Run begins at around 10:50!
Listen out for these next week and start planning your own serial for future broadcast. I have it on good authority that mysteries, comedies, science fiction and drama are strong contenders for selection. Episodes should sit at around 1500 words each and a limited series of 3-6 episodes would work well. Geelong Cereal is incredibly grateful to Ian and the Pulse team for their generous support and promotion of our literary works. Reading and Voice Actor Team
We’re in the process of assembling a team of enthusiastic voice actors and readers to bring future episodes of our stories to life, for both recorded and live broadcast reading. If this sounds like your idea of a good time, get in touch!
Our New Mascot
Our incredibly creative contributor Brett J Cole took time out of his day to create a mascot for us and we love it so much. If you have a suggestion for a name for our adorable cereal-filled new friend, please drop it in the comments.
New Look Website
If you regularly read the newsletters but you haven’t checked out the website recently, it has undergone some large-scale renovations. Have a look and let us know what you think in the comments below!
Poetry Palace
While Geelong Writers had active call-outs for NaXOs and the General Anthology, we held off on poetry call-outs. These have now closed, and poets have expressed interest in submitting their work to GC, so we’ve replaced the Poetry Corner with a new Poets' Palace (a much more venerable venue for your verse, I’m sure you agree!) Keep your eyes out for a new poetry digest in the coming weeks and if you’d like to submit to the Poets' Palace, please do!
The Donation Light Has Been Lit
GC is 100% volunteer run and free to read, free to subscribe to and we publish your work for free, but it is not free to produce.
