End of Year Get Together

The date of our end of year get together is now Thursday 3/12.
Sorry for the change; there was a booking conflict.
Please register here or respond on facey here. Attendance is free, of course, but December is very busy, so the venue needs accurate numbers.
You can check out their menu here.

It's in a lovely rooftop bar, there is a lift available if required, and the menu is super dietary-requirement friendly. Which is a no-brainer, since I chose the venue, and I am allergic to pretty much bloody everything.

Join us for dinner and drinks to celebrate the many amazing things we have accomplished together this year in our rapidly growing literary community! We have a lot to be proud of.

Please note meals and drinks will be self funded. I think most people prefer this to having a paid ticket/ catered event but if I'm wrong, let me know! Please RSVP at your soonest convenience.

Picture: Hard to tell what this is without Mel pointing out key features. Possibly the rooftop bar at the Telegraph Hotel from another angle.

Micro Fiction Six Open for Submissions.

This will be the last microfiction edition for the year and will be published in late December. There are many upcoming broadcast opportunities for micro fiction in store, so please, keep it rolling in and with your submissions, indicate if you would like to have your piece featured on air, and if so, whether you'd like to read it yourself, or have it read by someone else.

The theme for Micro Fiction Six is "I Walk Among You". Interpret that to be as wholesome or as creepy as you like!

If anyone is interested in pooling funds to get a limited edition print version of our collected microfiction made, perhaps before Christmas, please comment below. I'm not sure if it's viable, but if enough people would like such a thing, I'll do some investamagating!

A Collection of Short Serials

If you would like to write a fortnightly micro serial (from two sentences up to 500 words per episode) these will now be published in a fortnightly collection. Again, there is a lot of scope for these to be featured on 94.7 the Pulse in the coming weeks and months, so please indicate if this interests you when you send an expression of interest. Please do NOT email any material; there will be a new submission process for contributions to this new collection when I start taking submissions.

The Weather Collection

From a haiku all the way up to a full length serial, if you've written something that fits the very open-to-interpretation theme "weather", please submit it and clearly mark your submission "Weather Collection", followed by the name of the piece.
Why?
That's for me to know, and you to find out!

Radio Plays

If you've got a piece of writing you'd like to adapt into a radio play, please put your hand up. And then put it down and email me, because I can't see you, obviously. Unless you're outside my office window, in which case, please go home and email me, because that's just weird.

I'm no playwrite, so this will be something we can workshop and learn together. I know Geelong Writers will be running a playwriting workshop next year ahead of the Geelong Short Play Festival too, so I'll do more investigating and see what learning opportunities are out there for us.

Again, expressions of interest only, please. Much of this will go ahead in the new year. These questions are mainly for planning.

Legal Brains

Teefs hungers for legal brains. (In case you haven't met Teefs, they're our GC mascot, brought to us by the very clever and generous artist and writer Brett J Cole.

Do we have a member who is proficient in copyright law, who could assist with drafting our own artist release forms? We're publishing a lot of content now, and we need to make sure everyone's work is properly protected. Never forget that GC makes no claim to your work, will never sell or redistribute it without your consent, and will remove it from publication on your request without question. (With the exception of the mailouts, because I am neither a time traveller nor so adept at cyber-chicanery that I could possibly achieve that).

Lastly, Did You Know –

If you do not want to receive eight million emails from Geelong Cereal each week, and you'd rather just check the website when you feel like it, you can change your email preferences with the toggling of a single little green button!

If you switch off GC emails, you can still access everything on the website when you want to and turn emails back on at will. If you unsubscribe completely, however, you'll lose access to a lot of content, plus the ability to view and contribute to comments on posts. I will not be able to switch newsletters back on for you, no matter how many times you email me to request it (oh the irony!) because it is actually not legal for me to subscribe someone else to a mailing list. Only you have that power! Wield it wisely, journeyperson.

Apparently I can set up a newsletter digest, for those who prefer it to daily emails, but I haven't had time to figure out how as yet. It seems very complicated. If you feel really passionately about the need for a weekly newsletter digest, why not become an admin, and you can make newsletter digests to your hearts content! Make a digest every day if you want.

Alrighty.

That's good morning from me, and in case I don't see ya, good afternoon, good evening and good night!

-Mel
