News Update – Microfiction, Short Play Festival, New submission process
Good morning, literature enthusiasts!
We have a few quick updates for you on this dark, chilly morning. At least, it's dark and chilly just now, at 4am, in Geelong.
It's not inconcievable that by the time you read this, we might have experienced a small seismic event, leading to a cluster of large geothermal vents opening throughout the Geelong region, in which case, it's entirely possible that it's now a lovely warm day. We do sit upon a volcanically active zone folks, so it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility.
Microfiction Update
We have had a huge response to the microfiction callout this month and we're itching to publish it, but we have made the decision to extend the due date for submissions until this Sunday, specifically so that you folks can, if you are so inclined, attend the Geelong Short Play Festival at the Geelong Arts Center this Friday and Saturday, and then send us your impressions in exactly fifty words.
You can write fifty words about an individual play, fifty words about the performance as a whole, fifty words about a coffee you order from the cafe at the GAC, or, if you can't make it to the play festival, send us fifty words about whatever you do this weekend!
Whatever you end up reflecting on, just be creative, do it in exactly fifty words, and send it to thegeelongcereal@gmail.com before 11:59pm Sunday 16 August.
As always, we are also publishing two sentence stories, and any and all other microfiction up to 300 words.
Our third microfiction edition will be published next week, and you can look forward to a very impressive collection of tiny tales. We're thrilled with the response to this latest call-out and can't wait to share it with you.
Submissions process for our regular writers:
Skip this part if you're not a regular Cereal writer; it'll be dreadfully dull.
If you are one of our regular writers, either writing a serial or an Author Talks series, you will have recieved an email inviting you to become a contributor. This streamlines the process of submitting your work for publication, by allowing you to add it to the posting portal directly instead of emailing it to us to be pasted in. Please accept the invitation, have a look at the posting portal, and if you have any questions, reach out. If you're not comfortable with the process, you can continue to email your episodes, but we are asking that from now on, all authors add a complete title and byline to each individual installment, in the following format:
Name of Serial/ Series: Episode (number) – (Episode Name if applicable)
by (Author name)
and if you have a bio and/or links to socials, Amazon etc that usually appears at the end of your installments, please add those to each submission.
The reason for this change is that submissions to Geelong Serial have increased a great deal in the last few months (which is fantastic), volunteers are in extremely short supply (less fantastic), and we (meaning, for the most part, myself and my three cats,) need your help to keep the workload managable, so we can continue to bring you the best version of Geelong Cereal possible.
